Prepare Your Products for Export Fumigation
Prepare Your Products for Export Fumigation

Increase your chances of smooth customs clearance with safe, compliant fumigation and certification.

Export fumigation is a critical pest control process for agricultural products, raw materials, and wooden packaging materials such as pallets and crates—especially when exporting to countries with strict phytosanitary requirements like Australia, Japan, or countries enforcing ISPM 15 or AFAS standards.

Proper preparation of goods for fumigation ensures maximum effectiveness and helps prevent delays or rejection at the destination country.

Steps to Prepare Products for Export Fumigation

  1. Review the Destination Country’s Requirements

Before proceeding with export fumigation, thoroughly check the importing country’s regulations, such as:

          • Required documents, e.g.:

             ᵒ Fumigation Certificate

             ᵒ Phytosanitary Certificate

          • Specific fumigants accepted, such as:

             ᵒ Methyl bromide

             ᵒ Phosphine

  1. Prepare Goods for Fumigation

          • Products must be dry, clean, and free of dust, soil, broken grains, or insects

          • The floor surface must be flat and free from cracks or obstructions

          • Arrange items with sufficient spacing to allow the gas to circulate effectively

    For Container Fumigation

          • Pack goods securely using protective wrap materials (e.g., stretch film) that help prevent pest infestation

          • Control moisture levels to minimize the risk of mold

          • Inspect the container to ensure it is airtight and can withstand gas pressure

For Wooden Materials and Packaging (ISPM 15)

          • Wood should not exceed 20 cm in thickness, and must be uncoated and untreated

          • Must be debarked to prevent pest harborage

          • Avoid old wood with signs of insect infestation

          • Moisture content should be appropriate for effective fumigation

    For Stack Fumigation (Covered Stack)

          • Control moisture to reduce mold risk

          • Packaging bags must allow gas to penetrate

          • Avoid over packing to ensure proper gas distribution during fumigation

Proper product preparation before fumigation enhances fumigation efficiency, reduces the chance of customs delays, prevents re-treatment, and minimizes product damage. SGT Service offers end-to-end support—from fumigation procedures to issuing the official Fumigation Certificate.
